Adhesive Capsulitis
Adhesive Capsulitis
is often referred to as a frozen shoulder. Its
principal characteristics are pain and
contracture. Shoulder pain associated with
Adhesive Capsulitis is progressive in nature. When
one has Adhesive Capsulitis, combined movement
such as reaching for a seatbelt overhead or
reaching for a back pocket causes pain. Adhesive
Capsulitis causes a progressive loss of passive
range of motion.
The condition is diagnosed by
history, physical examination and imaging studies.
The best physical therapy modality is a strength
maintenance program. Intra-articular steroid
injections have
been used. Shoulder manipulations
under anesthesia, as well
as surgery is sometimes
required. |
